Kevin Bearley’s position with Kennedy and Coe, LLC is one of detailed research and careful planning. As director of the firm’s tax research department, Kevin coordinates sophisticated tax and estate planning strategies across various industries, reviews estate and gift tax plans and returns, speaks at family business and tax conferences and resolves numerous IRS appeals level cases.
Since 1997, Bearley has been with Kennedy and Coe working to make a difference in the lives and business of the firm’s clients. He believes clients look to the firm for advice in personal, family and company issues and that Kennedy and Coe “walks the walk” of becoming their business partner. Most of Bearley’s work revolves around agriculture clients, he says because of recent increases in land values, which encourages owners to take advantage of current estate laws.
Bearley enjoys the challenge of meeting an individual’s needs and goals and says getting to know client’s on a personal level has been the biggest benefit of his Kennedy and Coe career. His specialty is solving problems and creating air-tight strategies to protect a family’s business assets. This was proven during a particular case where a family client dealt with a lawsuit by an ex-son-in-law and faced the possibility of losing valuable farm assets.
“The firm had created an estate plan for the family and I served as an expert witness in the case to stop the ex-son-in-law from taking a significant share of family assets. The judge ruled completely in favor of the family. It was such a favorable result and the family felt thankful and relieved that the succession planning strategy we created provided the results they were expecting.” – Kevin Bearley
