Layne Shirk
It was the last vacation for Layne Shirk's family where everyone attended and had a great time. The family rented a cabin a short 100 feet from the isolated South Rim of the Grand Canyon. One evening the family was standing on the observation deck watching a thunderstorm move through the canyon. Realizing they were actually above the storm clouds, when it hit the canyon wall below, everyone was covered by clouds and rain coming up the wall of the canyon, rather than falling from above. Layne said it was by far the neatest experience they've had together.

Born a long ways from the Grand Canyon, Layne is a McPherson, Kansas, native and joined the Great Bend office of Kennedy and Coe, LLC in 1971. He became a member of the firm seven years later and now works in the Wichita office in the areas of banking, general practice assistance and special projects for the firm. Layne offers significant expertise in the areas of tax and auditing and routinely works with community and de novo banks in Kansas, Colorado, Oklahoma and Nebraska. He assists start-ups and established banks with day-to-day operations, financial statements and consulting.

Before his time on Earth ends, Layne would really like to remove the belongings of his wife, Barbara, from their garage and watch his grandkids participate in sports. This may never happen if he continues down the dangerous path of one of his hobbies, woodworking, where he once stuck a finger into the sawdust outlet of a radial arm saw, while the saw was running. He said it needed to be cleaned. Layne has three children, Abby, Jenny and Hanna.
